Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is working on a product that can be used to create customizable chatbots modeled on celebrities, similar to the ones offered by Meta (META) and startup Character.AI, The Information reported citing two sources with direct knowledge of the project.
The Gemini AI-powered chatbots, which can be created based on real and fictional individuals like NFL legend Tom Brady and TV character Tony Soprano, could be launched as soon as this year. Google (GOOG) (GOOGL) has also discussed partnering with social media influencers to model chatbots on them.
The company plans to launch the feature as a standalone product, and is considering integrating it into YouTube eventually, according to the report.
The product would be distinct from Gems, through which you can create personal experts using Gemini Advanced to help with specific tasks, like coding.
“Google Labs is a place where we experiment with future AI product ideas – some of which may be integrated into our products at some point, some of which will not,” company spokesperson Justin Burr said, but declined to comment on the chatbots.
