Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) rejected a proposal to integrate Meta Platforms’ (NASDAQ:META) AI chatbot Llama into iPhones months ago, people with knowledge of the matter told Bloomberg.
The companies held brief talks about using Llama in March, but Apple (AAPL) decided not to move forward as it believes Meta’s (META) privacy practices aren’t stringent enough.
The iPhone maker viewed OpenAI’s ChatGPT as superior, according to the report, with the company announcing the integration of the chatbot earlier this month.
Apple (AAPL) is also expected to partner with Google (GOOG) (GOOGL) to integrate Gemini in its products, building on the companies’ search tie-up for the Safari browser. Apple is also in talks with AI startup Anthropic for a potential partnership.
While Apple (AAPL) unveiled its in-house AI technology Apple Intelligence, it isn’t as advanced as rival offerings, because of which the company is seeking partners. It also believes users will eventually want more AI chatbot options to choose from.
Recall that over the weekend, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple (AAPL) and Meta (META) held talks about an AI partnership involving the integration of the Facebook owner’s generative AI model into Apple Intelligence.
