STAAR Surgical (NASDAQ:STAA) rose 6.5% amid some takeover speculation.
The maker of implantable lenses is said to have been approached by larger rival Alcon (ALC), according to a StreetInsider report on Wednesday, which cited an unidentified source. It’s not clear if the approach will lead to a deal.
A STAAR Surgical (STAA) spokesperson told StreetInsider that the company has a policy of not commenting on rumor or speculation. Alcon (ALC) also told the publication it has the same policy.
The latest news comes after Betaville last week said that an unidentified European company is speculated to be interested in STAAR (STAA) and is working with a bank to evaluate a potential deal.
