Northern Dynasty Minerals (NYSE:NAK) said Wednesday that two Alaska native village corporations filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over the government’s veto of the proposed Pebble mine.
Iliamna Natives Ltd. and Alaska Peninsula Corp., which represent the communities closest to the Pebble copper and gold project, said the EPA exceeded its authority in issuing its veto.
“Those who oppose Pebble have not provided any alternative that would improve the economy of this area,” Pebble Partnership CEO John Shively said. “These two native village corporations understand that the EPA and our opposition care little about their future.”
Northern Dynasty (NAK) shares have traded within a narrow range since January’s U.S. Supreme Court rejection of the state of Alaska’s request to revisit the federal veto of the proposed Pebble mine.
