Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) have held discussions about an AI partnership, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.
In an effort to catch up to companies like Microsoft (MSFT) that have stolen a march in the AI race, the companies have talked about integrating Meta’s generative AI model into Apple Intelligence, the Journal said, citing people familiar with the matter.
Apple announced its AI plans at the recent Worldwide Developers Conference. The plans include partnering with Open AI’s ChatGPT. Apple offers a huge distribution outlet for gen AI applications via the iPhone.
AI startups Anthropic and Perplexity have also held talks with Apple about their gen AI offerings, the Journal said, adding discussions with all companies could still fall through.
