- Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) announced Friday it is delaying the release of several of its artificial intelligence features in the European Union due to the Digital Markets Act, according to a report by Bloomberg.
- Apple now plans to block the release of Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring and SharePlay Screen Sharing from users in the EU this year.
- “We are concerned that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could force us to compromise the integrity of our products in ways that risk user privacy and data security,” Apple said in a statement.
- Apple Intelligence was only being released in American English this year, so it’s unknown how much this delay affects EU users, said Bloomberg chief correspondent Mark Gurman, in a post on X.
- The DMA has repeatedly hounded U.S. big tech companies this year. Last week, Meta Platforms (META) fell under scrutiny for allegedly violating the DMA. Earlier this year, Google (GOOG)(GOOGL) was forced to introduce changes to its search engine to comply with DMA regulations.
