The Netherlands’ Council of State ruled that ASML (NASDAQ:ASML) can continue expansion at its headquarters in Veldhoven, rejecting objections from two neighbors, Reuters reported.
The country’s highest administrative court noted that complaints that the new facilities would lead to issues of traffic and noise were not sufficient grounds to halt or alter the project, the report added.
The project was approved by Veldhoven’s town council in 2022.
The court said that proposals that the Dutch semiconductor equipment maker could set up its facilities partly below the ground would not work in practice due to the sensitive nature of the large machines ASML will assemble at the place, the report noted.
The expansion at Veldhoven is aimed to meet ASML’s near-term growth goals.
In April, ASML inked a letter of intent related to a larger expansion project in an undeveloped area in the north of the neighboring city of Eindhoven which would be big enough for about 20,000 additional workers from around 2030.
