Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU) unveiled an upgraded version of its AI model called Ernie 4.0 Turbo and noted that its generative AI product Ernie Bot has reached 300 million users to date.
The Chinese internet search giant hosted its deep learning developer conference Wave Summit in Beijing where Chief Technology Officer Haifeng Wang announced the developments, which besides the above, also included Application Programming Interface, or API, uses of Ernie Bot, and the deep learning framework PaddlePaddle 3.0.
Baidu noted that Ernie API now handles 500 million daily queries. In April, the company said Ernie Bot saw over 200M users, and Ernie API handled 200M daily queries.
Baidu’s latest model Ernie 4.0 Turbo offers faster responses and superior performance, boosting capabilities of its Ernie 4.0 foundation. It will soon be made available to users via web, app and API, according to the company.
The company also launched PaddlePaddle 3.0, its upgraded deep learning platform.
The new platform integrates core technologies including an auto-parallel architecture which unifies dynamic and static graphs, automatic compiler optimization, multi-hardware compatibility for large models, and integration of training and inference capabilities. These features boost performance and deliver more optimal outcomes for large models, Baidu noted.
The company added that till date, the PaddlePaddle ecosystem has been used by 14.65 million developers, served 370,000 enterprises and institutions, and hosted the creation of 950,000 models.
Since debut to the public, the Ernie Foundation Model has seen an increase in daily user inquiries as well.
In March, Baidu released five new versions of Ernie and an enhanced development toolkit for enterprises
The event also saw the launch of agricultural AI Agent, Farmers-Academician AI Agent, a collaboration between Baidu and Professor Zhu Youyong, academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and his team.
The tool is aimed at offering tailored solutions for agricultural production, and bring developments in agricultural science to help farmers with practical tools.
Baidu, Alibaba (BABA) and Tencent (OTCPK:TCEHY) (OTCPK:TCTZF) are among the many Chinese companies in the race to grab more space in the AI arena after OpenAI’s announced that it would restrict access to its services in China from July 9.
