Boeing (NYSE:BA) announced Saturday the launch of certification flight testing for its 777-9 model, marking a major milestone in getting its largest twin-engine aircraft cleared for deliveries next year.
The flight testing was conducted with the participation of the Federal Aviation Administration, aviation news site The Air Current said earlier, citing people familiar with the matter.
According to the publication, flight testing accompanied a crucial certification milestone known as Type Inspection Authorization, which focuses on an aircraft’s design to ensure it meets regulatory standards.
The company said in a post on X that the flight testing conducted at Boeing Field in Seattle is “an important step as we work under the oversight of our regulator to get the airplane certified and deliver it to customers around the world.”
The announcement comes as Arlington, Virginia-based Boeing (BA) remains on track to begin the first commercial deliveries of 777-9 in 2025 despite years of delays in the aircraft’s production, rollout, and certification.
