A CyberMetals study examined investing preferences among different age groups of investors.
The team surveyed 1,004 investors “to explore their preferences and trust in different investment vehicles.”
This included 60% of respondents from the U.S. and 40% from the U.K., from which 15% were Gen Z, 50% were millennials, 25% were Gen X, and 10% were Baby Boomers.
The study showed that 81% of investors preferred traditional investments, including stocks (67%), high-yield savings accounts (50%), 401(k) (39%), Roth IRAs (32%), and mutual funds (32%).
Also, 81% of Millennials and 78% of Gen Z were most likely to favor investing in cryptocurrencies.
When it comes to alternative investments, the most popular ones were cryptocurrencies (73%), gold (44%), and collectibles (43%).
In addition, among demographics, 78% of men strongly preferred crypto investing, favoring digital currencies, compared to 63% of women, the study said.
Women preferred tangible investments, including collectibles (47% of them), real estate (33%), and other precious metals (32%). Men registered these preferences at 41%, 25%, and 24%, respectively.
Also, over half of Gen Z said they were most likely to prefer investing in digital assets. The top factor influencing digital investment assets is potential for appreciation, where digital assets scored higher than physical assets.
Baby boomers and Gen X respondents showed the highest inclination towards physical assets, but 80% of all respondents said they trusted physical assets more during hard times.
“Overall, nearly 2 in 3 surveyed investors said they prefer physical assets over digital ones,” the report said. “Women demonstrated a stronger preference for physical assets compared to men, favoring them at a rate of 69% to men’s 59%.”
Gen Z respondents were the least likely to value precious metals (39% of them), and the most optimistic about digital assets (15% of them, compared to 9% of respondents overall).
