Sibanye Stillwater (NYSE:SBSW) said Thursday a cyberattack on its IT system since Monday has disrupted some global operations, but its core mining and processing business was operating normally.
The attack brought down its server and disrupted the system globally, a company spokesperson told Reuters, adding that Sibanye (SBSW) has hired external experts to help identify the breach and restore the system.
Sibanye (SBSW) is still not aware who was behind the attack, and no demands for payment have been received, the spokesperson said.
A United Steelworkers union official said Wednesday that operations at the company’s Montana operations were affected, as automated systems were not working.
CEO Neal Froneman said recently that Sibanye (SBSW) could be forced to shutter its Montana palladium mine if prices fail to rebound soon.
