- The Association of American Railroads [AAR] reported on Wednesday that for the week ending June 29, 2024, U.S. rail traffic was 491,899 carloads and intermodal units, up 3.9% year-over-year.
- Total carloads for the week rose 1.1% to 224,775 carloads, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 267,124 containers and trailers, rising 6.3%.
- Six of the 10 carload community groups posted a year-over-year increase for the week. They included grain, petroleum and petroleum products, and chemicals.
- Commodity groups that fell year-over-year for the week included nonmetallic minerals, coal, and miscellaneous carloads.
- North American rail volume for the week, on reporting U.S., Canadian and Mexican railroads was 334,500 carloads, up 2.1% year-over-year, and 347,441 intermodal units, up 4.6% year-over-year.
- Canadian railroads reported 93,710 carloads for the week, up 7.8% and 66,742 intermodal units, down 1%, year-over-year.
