Airbnb CEO Says AI Is the Best Thing to Happen to His Company

Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky just declared artificial intelligence the best development his company has ever seen. The platform now ships 80 percent more software than a year ago. Nearly half its customer support tickets resolve without a human agent. And the company grows faster than its competitors because AI is central to how it operates.

The transformation gained momentum when Airbnb hired Ahmad Al-Dahle as CTO in January 2026. He previously led generative AI at Meta, overseeing development of the Llama models. What once required teams of 20 now falls to a single engineer overseeing AI agents.

What Airbnb Got Right

Chesky calls this approach “founder mode.” He believes companies that stay close to product details and move quickly will prevail in the AI era. Managers who delegate broadly may fall behind.

The productivity gains cut development time by up to 60 percent while lowering costs. That’s not incremental improvement. That’s transformational change in how software gets built.

Meanwhile, 80.8 percent of engineers now use AI agents daily according to Temporal’s survey. The shift from AI as experiment to AI as standard tool is complete.

AI tools are transforming how companies build and ship software.

What You Should Do

If your business builds software, AI isn’t optional anymore. The productivity gains are too large to ignore. Start with code completion tools. Move to AI-assisted testing. Then explore autonomous coding agents. The technology is ready. The question is whether you are.
