AWS Invests 1 Billion to Embed GenAI Teams in Banks

AWS just announced a 1 billion dollar investment in a Forward Deployed Engineering program. The idea is simple but powerful. Embed generative AI engineers directly inside banks, exchanges, and payment firms to build cloud-based AI infrastructure.

These aren’t remote consultants. They’re cross-functional teams of engineers, data scientists, and financial services specialists working on site with customers. They design GenAI infrastructure, speed model development, and create repeatable processes for scaling AI projects.

Why On-Site AI Teams Work

The biggest problem with AI adoption isn’t the technology. It’s the implementation. Companies buy AI tools and then struggle to integrate them into existing workflows. Having AWS engineers on site eliminates that friction.

Danske Bank worked with AWS to build a migration platform that moved older applications to the cloud. Then they used generative tools to convert business logic into new code. The AI explained what legacy code does from a business perspective, then generated new applications from those requirements.

Stanford’s 2026 AI Index reports that 88 percent of organizations now use AI in at least one business function. But only 56 percent of CEOs say their companies have realized significant financial benefit from AI. The gap between using AI and benefiting from AI is enormous.

AI infrastructure investment is accelerating, but implementation remains the bottleneck.

What This Means for Your Business

GenAI is moving from experiments to production. AWS is betting a billion dollars that the companies who get implementation right will dominate their industries. The question is whether you’ll be one of them.

If you’re struggling to make AI work in your business, you’re not alone. Most companies are. The difference between winners and losers will be execution, not technology.
